Welcome to the City of Alvarado's dedicated page for solid waste and recycling services! Below is everything residents and businesses need to know about trash collection, recycling, bulk pickup, and landfill access.
Weekly Residential Trash Collection
Service Day: Once per week on your scheduled route.
Time: Place carts curbside by 7:00 AM.
Cart Provided: One 95-gallon blue cart.
All household trash must fit inside the provided cart with the lid fully closed. Additional waste may not be collected unless otherwise approved by the City or Republic Services.
Weekly Recycling Collection
Pickup: Every week on your trash day.
Cart Provided: One 95-gallon cart.
Accepted Items: Cardboard, paper, aluminum, tin, #1 and #2 plastics.

Monthly Bulk Item Pickup
When: Once per month.
Zone 1: North of Hwy. 67, on Chris Ct., Janis St., Helen, Liesa or Lorie-The first Friday of every month Zone 2: Anywhere other than what is listed in Zone 1- The second Friday of every month
Limit: Up to 3 cubic yards of bulk waste per household.
Allowed Items: Furniture, mattresses, non-construction large items.
Not Allowed: Construction debris, tires, liquids, hazardous materials.
Brush Pickup
Frequency: Monthly (with bulk item pick up)
Limit: Up to 3 cubic yards
Guidelines: Branches must be cut to 3 feet in length and bundled to weigh no more than 35 pounds.

Service is delayed by one day for the remainder of the week if your pickup falls on:

Standard Residential Rate: $16.37/month (Effective August 1, 2025)
Additional Cart: $8.99/month
Trash and recycling charges are included in your monthly water bill.
Commercial Waste & Dumpster Services
Businesses must contract directly with Republic Services for customized dumpster and pickup needs.

Free Landfill Drop-Off Program
Landfill Location:
Republic Services Itasca Landfill
π 2559 FM 66, Itasca, TX
Landfill Hours:
Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Saturday: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
(Arrive at least 30 mins before closing; 1 hour early if paying)
What You Get:
Every single-family household in Alvarado is eligible for 4 free landfill passes per year (July 1 – June 30).
Each pass covers up to 4 cubic yards of non-commercial waste (roughly a pickup truck bed).
Additional debris is billed at a discounted rate of $18.00 per cubic yard, plus tax.
To Use the Program:
Visit City Hall’s Utility Billing Department at 104 W. College Ave., Alvarado, TX 76009, to request your landfill passes. City Hall operating hours are Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM.
Show a valid driver’s license matching your water account address.
Passes are valid for 30 days from issuance.
You must sign for each pass and only use them for waste from your own home.
Important Notes:
Hard hats and safety vests are required for trailer loads if exiting the vehicle. Residents may bring their own or buy from the landfill for $13 each.
Passes cannot be sold, transferred, or misused—doing so may result in loss of access.
Unacceptable Items Include:
Refrigerators/AC units with Freon
Car batteries or used motor oil
Tires, pesticides, and hazardous waste
Regulated asbestos and industrial waste
